Golf. Simply, a Love I cannot Live without. One day I saw a Bobby Jones Special after I spent my 1st day on a Golf Course in July of 2005 and I was hooked immediately. ones is the only player ever to have won the (pre-Masters) Grand Slam, or all four major championships, in the same calendar year (1930). Tiger Woods, has won four majors in a row, but they were over the course of two seasons and not in the same year, sorry Tiger. Jones made a bet on himself achieving this extraordinary feat with British bookmakers early in 1930, before the first tournament of the Slam, at odds of 50–1, and collected over $60,000 when he did it.Robert Tyre Jones Jr. (named for his grandfather) was born on St. Patrick’s Day, 1902, in Atlanta. Bobby is the nickname; his full name was Robert Tyre Jones Jr. He used to say, “Competitive golf is played mainly on a five-and-a-half-inch course, the space between your ears.” Which is great because I believe that anything in your life that you can achieve comes from your thoughts, so it applies perfectly to my positive and influential mindset.
He began winning tournaments at age 6, a natural from the start. At the age of 10, he shot a 90 for 18 holes. Are you kidding me? Amazing feat, especially Golf. His putting was famous. So was his putter, a rusty, necked club known as Calamity Jane. Which today replicas are still being made. As a skinny young boy, in order to bulk up a bit as they say, the family bought a summer house next to the fairways of Atlanta’s East Lake Country Club. At six years old, his health and strength improved and he started playing golf. He became the youngest golfer to ever qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1916 Despite being an amateur, Bobby Jones was better than any professional golfer of his generation and arguably the greatest golfer of all-time.
